James 1:2-4 ~ “My brethren, COUNT IT ALL JOY when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
In this verse, the word “knowing” indicates that through past experiences, we know that if we don’t give up, in the end, there will be joy.
Nobody is exempt from trials. Trials test your FAITH and the testing of your FAITH produces PATIENCE.
1) When trials come, “count them as joy” (not to be confused with pleasure or fun).
2) When trials come, your FAITH will be tested. (Do I really believe what I say I believe?)
3) When your FAITH is tested, it will produce (bring out) PATIENCE (steadfastness, staying power perseverance.)
Luke 8:15 ~ “But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and BEAR FRUIT WITH PATIENCE.”
PATIENCE is the key to every good thing God wants to give you and is oftentimes the missing ingredient. FAITH and PATIENCE work together. You do not have any more FAITH than you do PATIENCE. PATIENCE keeps faith on the job, but once PATIENCE is gone … so is FAITH! (Heb. 6:12,)
Romans 5:3-4 (NLT) ~ “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.” The
Amplified Bible says, “bring out” endurance, steadfastness and patience.
FAITH “causes” PATIENCE to “come out” (as if secreted by a gland, like adrenaline). But you don’t need PATIENCE (adrenaline) all the time! PATIENCE is in you, so quit saying you don’t have PATIENCE! Instead, train yourself to say: “I HAVE PATIENCE!”
In the Greek, PATIENCE means “the ability to remain under; staying power, perseverance versus whining, complain, lash out, or quit.” If you use these crisis mechanisms and quit trusting in God you will send PATIENCE and FAITH right out the door, fulfilling the enemy’s desire for you! So don’t cooperate with the enemy! Hold onto PATIENCE and it will keep you from getting blown away, and while you’re holding on, God will help you. Through this process, you will become MATURE and COMPLETE — perfect soundness, solid, fully developed, and lacking nothing!
Once you understand how PATIENCE and FAITH work, THEN YOU CAN COUNT IT ALL JOY.
Another ingredient to overcoming any trial is to ask God for wisdom.
James 1:5 ~ “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
Bottom line: stay out of old crisis mechanisms and let PATIENCE do its job. That’s where God will meet you, strengthen you, and deliver you. Don’t quit! Hang in there and you WILL see your harvest!
