Ok, so maybe you have never heard of this field of endeavor. That does not mean that it is not a legitimate vocation.
While praying one day, I was asking God to “purge me” from an old habit that I could not seem to break free of. He spoke up in my heart and said, “Purge yourself.” I thought: Well, that is kind of cold. But I realized that the Lord was showing me that the power to be free from this thing was, for the most part, in MY control. You see, it is God that does the cleaning and purging. But it is us that must cooperate with Him.
I am not talking about works, I am talking about LOVE.
John 14:15 ~ “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
John 14:21 ~ He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
John 14:23 ~ Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
If you love Him, you will keep His word. You might say, “but I do love the Lord, I am just struggling with this one thing.” Why struggle? Jesus IS the Word, so put the Word inside you and let Him Love you and clean you up.
1Corinthians 5:7 ~ Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
The old leaven it is talking about here is the old habits and old ways of thinking. These are the things that are opposed to God’s word and His ways, not to mention your new nature. The problem with this “old leaven” is that it affects the whole lump. You may not realize it, but anything that you allow to stay in your life affects your entire being, wether it be good, or bad.
We have part of the responsibility to purge these thought processes and crisis mechanisms out of our life so that we can mature into what God has intended us to be. God has given us the greatest of tools to do this with. His Word.
Romans12:2 ~ And do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what
is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Ephesians5:25-27 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or
wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
If you REALLY love someone, you will hang on their every word. If you really love Jesus, you will not only hang on every word, but do your best to keep them.
What you feed grows. What you starve dies. This is not just a rule of nature, but a spiritual truth. If you feed your spirit with the life giving words in the bible, your spirit will grow and displace all that old leaven.
We need to be washed and cleansed from unclean thought processes. It will be impossible for you to live a victorious Christian life without daily exposure to, and intake of, His Word. This is one of the main ways God cleans up your life.
If you struggle with unclean thoughts and bad habits, maybe you should consider seeing a Mental Hygienist :o)
