The Significance of SAYING

Are you a good communicator? Careful, tactful and wise with your words? Or are you one of the many people that need to carry around a roll of Duct Tape to keep you from sinning with your mouth and saying things you regret?

Oh, I am not pointing fingers at anyone, I have been known to need some of that miracle-working, silver sticky stuff myself.

If you truly are a servant of Christ, you immediately feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit when you say something that hurts people or tears them down. If you go for long periods of time and don’t experience those little pricks of conviction and correction in your heart, I would suggest to you that you are not even trying.

We all have room to grow in this department; I don’t care how mature we are. One of the most important things we can learned is to trust our heart. Our heart (spirit man) has a direct line to God’s heart and mind, and the source of all wisdom and knowledge. If we take a moment to check up on the inside before we speak, we would see an immediate change in the quality of our communication, as well as the quality of our relationships. This is a principle that Proverbs makes very clear.

Proverbs 15:28 ~ The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil.

In others words, give your heart a little time to tell your mouth what to say. 🙂

Our words carry enormous weight, and can carry severe consequences. More than we sometimes think. They have the ability to impact people for a very long time, shaping and molding who they are and influencing the direction and path that they take. The bible says that faith comes by hearing, (Romans 10:17) So we should ask ourselves; “what are my words making people believe about themselves, and how are my words shaping my own beliefs?

Words can build courage and strength or they can discourage and weaken. They can minister grace and life, or pain and death. They can build and edify, or they can tear down and destroy. They not only communicate, they also create.

Luke 6:45 – A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

What treasure have you been storing away in your heart? Did you even know that you had a store? Whether you know it or not, your heart is being filled with something. The things that you give attention to, look at, and hear fills your heart, and whatever you are full of comes out when you speak. A minister once told me, ” When you get squeezed with problems, what’s inside you WILL come out.” It is so true. So, when a Christian gets squeezed Christ should come out.

God’s Word is the obvious choice if we are to store treasure in our heart. His Words are spirit and life, they are health and medicine, they are full of grace and they are truth. When you are full of God’s Word your communications carry a part of HIM with it. Your speech becomes a tool that God can use to build you up and impart grace to others.

Ephesians 4:29 ~ Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

The best definition of grace is:

“The divine influence on the heart, and its reflection in the life.”

There are few things more rewarding than to know that you have been used by God to influence another person for HIM. To impart His grace and leave that person better off than before you spoke to them. Man! It just doesn’t get any better!

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Every day, we are shaping reality for ourselves, and others who hear our words. The choice is ours. How will our words impact others? How will your words impact YOU and your family? Are you determined to make progress in this area? Do you see the need?

I have a little saying that I try to live by. As my wife will attest, I don’t always do it, but I’m still growing, PRAISE GOD! The saying is this:

“Before you speak, make sure it is an improvement on silence.”

Just doing that one little thing will keep you from all kinds of grief.

The Word of God is full of commands to keep His word before our eyes and in our mouth. It’s clear that words must be treated as a stewardship. I will leave you with two of my favorite scriptures on the importance of stewarding words. Be blessed!

Joshua 1:8 ~ This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Proverbs 4:20-22 – My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

~ The Mechanics Of Faith ~

There is no other topic on faith more controversial in religious circles. Yet this is the one topic you MUST understand to operate in, and understand faith the way God designed. I chose the words “Mechanics Of Faith” because it is the God ordained way of operating in faith. This is spiritual LAW, based on principles that God has laid out for us in His Word. First, lets establish God’s method of operation, how God chooses to do things:

1 Corinthians 1:26-28 ~ For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the
things
which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

Do you see the pattern here? God’s chosen way of doing things is directly opposite of what we think is natural. That being said, we can see why this principle is so misunderstood. You must force yourself to think this way and trust that God knows what He is talking about. It will not come natural to you at first because this fallen and broken world has trained us to think in the opposite direction

Keep in mind verse 27. God has chosen the foolish and weak things to put to shame the “wise and mighty”…..and here we are …The Chosen! That thought alone should produce a little humility.

God chose this method of using things that are not manifest (things that you cannot see, smell, touch, etc.) to bring to NOTHING the things that ARE manifest. This is what we see in the New Testament healings by Jesus. To practically every miracle of healing He added a comment such as, “Thy faith hath saved thee”; “According to your faith be it done unto you”; “Thy faith hath made thee whole”; “ If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes”.

God has chosen the unseen force of faith (the thing that is NOT manifest) to bring to nothing the things are manifest. (sickness and disease, poverty, oppression, etc.)

One great enemy of our faith is fear of the visible and tangible. The church has become slaves to the visible and the tangible. We make a huge deal out of deeds and very little of words.  To understand this principle of “Calling things that are not as though they were”, we must understand the power of words. The first chapter of John holds a key.

John 1:1-3 ~ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

We must realize that God has not changed. He now dwells inside regenerate man and still works by this one unchangeable process:

  • The Father speaks His word.
  • The Son speaks, and does the Father’s word by faith.
  • The Spirit manifests the substance of that word in the natural
    realm.

One responsibility lies with man, and it is so pivotal that ALL the outcome is dependant on this one activity … Man must carry out the process of faith.

This is no magic formula, no magicians trick. This is NOT trying to “get God to do something”. This is simply Man co-operating with God on the inside and yielding to this creative/re-creative process.

The word of God expressed by the speaking and doing, results in the substance of that word being manifest in the natural realm.

We must embrace the power of the unseen realm, God’s realm, where true power comes from things you cannot see. Here is the principle:

Romans 4:17 ~ (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many
nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

God uses Abraham (the father of our faith) as the example for this process of faith. God changed his name from ABRAM to ABRAHAM. Abraham
literally means “father of a multitude”. Was he a father of a multitude when
his name was changed? No, but when he did call him Abraham, the force of faith was released and now the Spirit of God had a legal right to bring it to pass in the natural realm. This is the “Mechanics Of Faith” in action.

Lets look at an example in Jesus life and ministry;

Mark 11:12-14 ~ And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: 13And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. 14And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

Mark 11:20-22 ~ 20And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. 22And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

Even Jesus, when He spoke to the fig tree, did not see results that very minute. They did not see the results of His  “cursing the fig tree” until the next morning. Many people get discouraged when they confess God’s word and don’t see results right away. They speak to their disease or problem, they declare what God’s word says about their situation and if it doesn’t manifest when they think it should, they give up and cast away their confidence. They don’t hold fast to their confession, so they get no results.

Hebrews 10:23 ~ Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

The word “profession” is the same word used for confession. We must trust God that what He said is true, and we must trust the process of faith that He has ordained, calling those things that are not manifest as though they were.

1 John 5:4 ~ … and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

~I Am God’s Word~

Some say I am just an expression of an idea, that I have no real effect on people’s lives. Some don’t believe in me at all. I wish they knew me better. I have been misused, misspoken, misinterpreted, and misunderstood; yet I remain faithful and true.

I am far more than mere words, I am Spirit and I am Life. I was there in the beginning. When I was spoken, things were created, and everything in the universe is upheld by me. I am quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. I am the spirit of faith, and I am truth.

I am a light unto your path and a lamp unto your feet if you choose to follow me. I am incorruptible seed, and when I am spoken in faith God watches over me to make sure I perform. I do not return void or incomplete but I accomplish that which I was sent to do. I am very pure, unchanging, and holy.

I am forever settled in heaven. I am steadfast and I am at work all the time. I can be trusted and I am never wrong. I am the sword of the Spirit and I am like a hammer, yet I can wash your soul like the purest of water. When I am spoken things are established in your life. I am eternal.

I am sweeter than honey on your lips. When I enter your heart I give light and understanding. If you love me you will have great peace, and nothing shall offend you. I give you wisdom, and I am life to those who find me, and health to all their flesh.

If you love me and keep me in your heart, when you go out, I will lead you; when you sleep I will keep you, and when you awake I will talk with you. When you need instruction I am there to instruct you, when you need correction, I am there to correct you.

I know I can change your life. I am just waiting to be loved, spoken, and believed in. I have every answer to every question that you will ever have. If you would meditate on me day and night, keep me before your eyes and in your mouth, you would make your way prosperous and you would have good success. If I were in your heart in abundance, you would be speaking me all the time.

I am God’S word.

Words, The Steering Wheel Of Your Life

Part of the mission God has given to me is to teach and encourage people to speak God’s Word and create an awareness of the power of our words. This is a huge part of living by faith.

Saying what God says about you and putting yourself in agreement with Him by confessing what He says in His Word will set you on a course to fulfill your divine destiny on this earth and reach your potential in Christ.

I am fully convinced by the Word of God that we can change our lives by what we say. The Word of God is full of instruction and examples of the use of words and their importance in our lives. The book of Proverbs is an instruction in wisdom and it is filled with passages about the power and effect of our words. We will refer to some of them later, but first take a look at what James says about the power of the tongue and its ability to direct the course of our lives.

James 3:3-5 ~ Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

We have some great comparisons here that show us the power of our words. The small bit in the horse’s mouth can turn and direct that powerful animal and change its course. And just like a tiny rudder on a huge ship can point it in any
direction, what we say with our mouth is like the steering wheel of our life, it directs and determines our direction and course.

It has been my observation that most Christians DO NOT believe this principle. If they did, they would be more selective in what they are saying.

Lets look at some more scripture that describe the awesome power of the tongue.

Proverbs 18:20 ~ A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit
of his mouth;
from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.

Proverbs 18:21 ~ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and
those who love it will eat its fruit.

Is it really true that life and death are in the power of the tongue, the power to speak life or death to your situation? Your body, your job, your career, your family, your finances, your ministry, your mind, they are ALL affected by what is coming out of your mouth.

If you look at today’s most popular motivational speakers, you will see that they have some understanding of these principles and have had great success applying them to their lives and the lives of their followers. Most of them don’t even know that there are eternal spiritual laws at work, and yet they know that they can change their world with the things that they say. And that is exactly the point.

You don’t have to know why things happen as long as you know that they DO happen. There is more than enough scripture that plainly spells out the power that you have in your words without you having to do an exegetical theological study on the topic.

God has made it very plain and simple. This is a topic that should be above argument and easy for all to see because of the sheer volume of scripture on the subject. Yet when you mention confession of God’s Word people come out of the woodwork to take a position against it.

This makes perfect sense to me because I know that the enemy HATES it when you speak God’s Word. Jesus spoke it when He defeated Satan in the wilderness and you can speak it to defeat Satan in your own life.

When the devil comes to steal kill and destroy, you can use God’s word to build up, give life, and prosper.

Here are a few more scriptures to help drive the importance of your words:

Job 22:28 ~ You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.

Proverbs 10:11 ~ The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But
violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

Proverbs 15:4 ~ A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But
perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

Mark 11:23 ~ For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this
mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Isaiah 57:19 ~ I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” Says the LORD, “And I will heal him.”

Psalm 103:20 ~ Bless the LORD, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word.

Joshua 1:8 ~ This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

These are just a few passages that tell us the power that is available to us. This is a huge responsibility. These verses would not be in the bible unless God wanted us to be aware of this power and use it for good.

Take heed to what is coming out of your mouth. If it does not build up and bless, strengthen and encourage, produce faith and create a vision for success … DON’T SAY IT!  Remember, when you speak … it should be an improvement on silence.

Can you Hear me Now?

As a man thinks, in his heart so is he. Proverb 23:7
Just like a constant drop of water on a rock eventually leaves a mark on the rock, so will  words when they are heard over and over and over.

Spoken words are powerful.
The numbers of words filtered through your ears is more powerful than their source. And even if you tried to shut down all the sources that you believe are a menace, you cannot shut down the one with the greatest impact. This would be your own voice. Whether you realize it or not your words are constantly defining your reality
. You are defining your world.
Thoughts – words – actions ->>is how the movie of your life rolls. You think, speak and act accordingly, so be kind to yourself. Speak truth. Negative thoughts distort your selfimage. Did you know you are your first best friend forever? If what you hear yourself saying is not helping you, then you might want to consider changing your thoughts for God’s thoughts. You may say right now… but what I say is my truth! Yes, you are right! You think about it, you say it, and you live it out…

Renew your thoughts.
How about you renew your mind? Even though you may be a new creature in Christ it takes time to renew your thoughts. I am still working on mine. It is on ongoing process. Create new thoughts based on God’s words. Redefine your reality with His words. His words are true. God is for you! He loves you, has thoughts of peace for you, sings over you, is with you and has plans for you. (Jeremiah 29:11) Why would you not agree with His words? They are life.

“As a man thinks, in his heart so is he”
Proverbs 23:7

Every time you put God’s Word into your thought life, you are making an investment… Change your thoughts – Change your words- and Change your Life!
